Hi and Welcome to my
"Just for Fun" page.
As I travel and visit the quilt shops
across America,
I would like to share some trivia
with you.
"Just for Fun"
After finishing the QuiltPoster
for California,
a dachshund
who needed a home
hitchhiked a ride with us from
Portland Oregon and he traveled with
us (and our two dogs) for months
visiting quilt shops...
until one day...he found a job
as a quilt shop mascot in
Southern Iowa.
His name is now Babie.
You can visit him at

Garden Grove, CA

This shop is owned by a gentleman who was taught to quilt
by his grandmother as a young boy.
Later in life he became passionate about riding motorcycles
and one day he put a teddy bear on the front of his bike
and therefore the nickname
"Bear"

On the way to Kalona to visit with the Woodin Wheel Quilt
Shop we drove through Riverside, Iowa and saw a replica of
the Starship Enterprise from the original TV Show, Startrek.
Apparently this is the
future birthplace of
Captain James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise
The oldest Quilt
Shop I found is in
Iowa, at 112 years
old and has sold
fabric since
1894.

The owner of this shop found that she
needed a serious surgery that would
leave her unable to keep her shop
open during recovery.
Her customers got together and ran
the shop for her in order to keep it
open.

Just down the street from "Q" is for Quilts
on 620 S. Glenoaks Blvd. in Burbank, CA,
we noticed the NBC studios on Alameda
Ave. Around back is the NBC Studio gift
store and they gave Gene and I some
tickets to that evenings show.
Gene and I have had the honor to visit six Presidential Libraries. The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library,  The Nixon Library,
The Eisenhower Library and The Herbert Hoover Library, The Truman Library and The Abraham Lincoln Presidential
Library and Museum.
. In each Library, one of the first things on
display is a quilt.
Quilt being presented to Mikail Gorbachov
On a Recent visit to the Woodin Wheel Quilt Shop in Kalona, Iowa, Katie Karnes,
one of the owners, showed us these pictures of the quilts that her shop had sold
which were presented to former
President Ronald Reagan.
and a quilt  they sold that was presented to
Mikail Gorbachov leader  of the former
Soviet Union.

This quilt shop has the distinction of having a jail cell in the middle of it.
It was formerly the City Hall in Buffalo Center Iowa.
Connie Peterson, the owner purchased this building for one thousand
dollars and turned it into a quilt shop.
Visit her at 113 1st St NW  Buffalo Center, Iowa   641-562-2460

Medford, Oregon...you are not far from
Crater Lake
which is a lake inside the top of a volcano
While visiting Quilters Haven in
Rockford, IL, one of the owners,
Stephanie mentioned that sock
monkeys originated in Rockford, IL.
Sock monkeys were popular around the
1900's. The
Nelson Knitting Mills in
Rockford, Illinois made the original
Rockford Red Heeled sock in 1890.
In 1920 the mill soon began packaging
directions for the sock monkeys with each
pair of socks after a customer made a doll
and sent it to the company.
Quilters come from all over the world.
Every business in town will display
beautiful Quilts on their buildings.
Lots of fun and prizes available.
